Warlords of Draenor Raid Preview: Blackrock Foundry

Blackrock Foundry was the ancestral home of the Blackrock orcs, wherein master smiths smelted and worked the impossibly hard ore that is the clan’s namesake. Now, massive giants captured and broken by the Thunderlord heat the great forges, flamebenders of the Burning Blade imbue the ore with an inner fire, and engineers shape the slag according to otherworldly schematics. Warlord Blackhand’s foundry is the center of the Iron Horde’s military might, churning out the weaponry that will be used to raze Azeroth.

Just when you thought you’d become comfortable (as comfortable as one can get in a gladiator pit) with Highmaul, we thought it was time to shake things up and show you what’s waiting in our next Raid—Blackrock Foundry—and introduce you to Rukhmar, the latest world Raid boss.

We asked senior 3D artist Andy Matthews to provide some insight into the dungeon’s visual development:

The Foundry’s spark of inspiration was the creation of the Slagworks’ “furnace room;” it created iconic silhouettes that we carried throughout the rest of the Raid, which has a very strong industrial look and feel.

The Dread Grotto was my favorite shot to establish in the Raid. In its early development, we wanted to show the Iron Horde’s shipping area from multiple angles, foreshadowing later content. The Workshop shows the daily grind of factory life for the Ironworkers. Most workers dread the “flame-jet Fridays.”

Some say the Iron Horde motto is, “When in doubt, add a spike!”

You’ll need a minimum item level of 635 to tackle Blackrock Foundry via Raid Finder. The Foundry’s rewards range from item level 650 (Raid Finder) to 695 (Mythic).

Let’s take a look at the bosses that await you within Blackrock Foundry. . . .

Slagworks
Gruul- Garrosh knew that the surest path to breaking the gronn lay in subjugating their great father, Gruul. Known in another time as the Dragonkiller, here Gruul has been reduced to the role of menial laborer. In a cruel mockery of the Shattered Hand’s warrior tradition, his hand has been replaced with a hook to enable him to more easily haul pallets of fuel to the furnace.

Oregorger- The storehouses of the Blackrock Foundry, laden with heaps and pallets of unprocessed Blackrock ore, represent a grand banquet feast for the ravenous rock-eating goren who have burrowed into the chamber. Oregorger is by far the largest of the invaders, gluttony swelling his frame far beyond the size of any goren previously seen in Draenor.

The Blast Furnace- The Blackrock clan’s unique ability to smelt the black ore, a substance so dense that ordinary flame does not even soften it, has always been their most closely-guarded secret. Deep within the Foundry, their furnace contains a primal force as old as Draenor itself, raging within the confines of its prison as it emanates a preternatural heat.

The Black Forge
Hans’gar and Franzok- Hans’gar and Franzok are twin brothers raised and trained as masterful brawlers of their clan. Both carved paths of glory as warriors, but destiny had other plans. The brothers, each unwilling to slay the other in the rite of mak’gora, were banished from their clan and left for dead. They survived as outcasts in the savage wilds of Draenor and when the Iron Horde called, these powerful warriors found a new home in the massive war machine.

Flamebender Ka’graz- Under the banner of the Iron Horde, Blackhand has enlisted Flamebender Ka’graz of the Burning Blade to imbue the Blackrock-forged armaments with the essence of flame. Along with her assistant Aknor Steelbringer, Ka’graz toils before an ever burning forge in support of the Iron Horde’s conquest of Draenor.

Kromog- The magnaron are mysterious in their ways, ancient and inscrutable. Miners excavating an expansion to the Foundry, in support of the Iron Horde’s massive production needs, were horrified to unearth a chamber containing a living magnaron. To their astonishment, Kromog began to assist in their endeavors, and now uses his massive stone fists to hammer out the gigantic plates needed for the Iron Horde’s dreadnaughts and siege machinery.

Iron Assembly
Beastlord Darmac- As a young orc, Darmac quickly rose through the ranks of the Thunderlord as a gifted trainer of beasts. Where others only saw animal instincts, he recognized intellect and drew forth untapped potential from brain and muscle and bone. When the Iron Horde demanded his service, Darmac saw no greater honor than to outfit and train the most savage beasts Draenor has to offer.

Operator Thogar- Known more for his cruelty and cleverness than for brute strength, Thogar oversees the operation of the Grimrail. From the Foundry’s depot, he coordinates the ongoing ground battle against the draenei in Talador, with entire battalions of troops and artillery at his beck and call.

The Iron Maidens- With little opportunity to exercise her tactical brilliance under the ancient social structure of the orc clans, Gar’an was thrilled to be one of the first warriors to volunteer for naval duty under the Iron Horde. Instantly successful in battle, she was named Admiral of the iron Horde fleet and selected Marak and Sorka as her lieutenants. Together, they are called the Iron Maidens, and have crushed any who have dared face them.

The Crucible
Blackhand- A ruthless tyrant and fierce warrior, Blackhand is Warlord of the Blackrock clan, second only to Grommash in stature within the Iron Horde. Bathed in sweltering heat that few other mortals could withstand, Blackhand oversees the operations of his Foundry from atop its Crucible, wielding his smoldering slag hammer to forge weapons of peerless quality.

World Boss: Rukhmar
Rukhmar occasionally appears as a blazing firehawk soaring through the skies high above the Spires of Arak. The origins of the great bird are unknown though Rukhmar is venerated as a deity by the arrakoa, seen as an embodiment of the sun itself.

Weekend 10m Group

Running a poll to see if any interest in doing a saturday afternoon(or evening) 10m run.

The goal of this group would be to gear some of our players in heroic tier, then use this extra umph to help us when we eventually start doing 25m heroics.

This group demands quality play. This will not be a silly little gathering where mistakes are okay and no one criticizes. We want your very best and expect you to play up to the group's standard. And alts are welcomed to join, provided they have their cloak and at least 555-560 item level. If your damage or heals are a bit low, we can work with that. We ask that you be willing to accept our advice and not see it as a personal attack against your ability. We truly want to help and will not make fun of you for asking.

I do hope many of you decide to choose yes. This is a great opportunity to improve your character's gear, and get some heroic experience as well.

Though granted I am not often on guildlaunch, so... urhm, well, painkillers are fun and this seemed like a good idea! Root canal ftw! If you want any other information on me feel free to ask. Loot Rules

10 Man Loot Rules -Main spec over off spec:
Using actual rolls, the OS is its own roll. Main spec is the current designated in guild note. We roll main spec and then off spec. You can only change your main spec every three months unless it is integral to the raid.

25 Man Loot Rules - Main spec over off spec:
DKP/Dragon Kill Points
Earning Points:
1) 10 pts for being on time
2) 10 pts per boss kill
3) 10 pts for being at the raid the whole 3 hours
4) 10 pts for being on deck and ready to come into the raid
5) 5 pts for signing up and showing up

Using Points:
* Whisper the officer which will usually be Doomsknight the
amount you would like to spend
* The minimum bid should be at least 20 DKP
* The maximum that you can spend is whatever your current net
is. You can not spend more than you have.
* Remember you are bidding against other people. If they bid
higher they can win. Currently, bids are blind. So, if you
really want an item bid the bank.

Automatic Win (Wild):
* A roll is generated for each bid which is used/looked at when
their is a tie of DKP.
* If a "1" is rolled it is a automatic win. It trumps even the
DKP value that was bid. The person with the "1" wins the
loot and the amount of DKP they bid is subtracted from their
net.

Values used by DKP system:
* The Net can be found in the officer note in guild.
* It shows as Net 00.00; Total 00.00; Hrs 00.00
* Net is the overall amount you can spend
* Total is the amount that you have earned since becoming part
of the DKP
* Hrs shows the last amount of hours raided.

Degrading DKP:

If you miss a raid and do not inform the RAID LEAD. You will lose 30 DKP per day missed. At 2 weeks missed you will lose and extra 120 DKP. Culminating in a total minus 240 DKP over 2 weeks. Please just inform the raid leader so "You" don't lose DKP. If you miss a month your DKP will be zeroed.

On the left hand side of the screen, underneath where it says "Who's Online" you will see "Membership." There are two options, (1) Apply to Guild and (2) Launch Code. If you are not a current member of guild this, please click the "Apply to Guild" link and follow the instructions. If you are already a member of Brimestone, please click the "Launch Code." The code that it is looking for is provided in WoW in the guild info.

Once we came up with the guild name Brimstone. We decided to go with the theme of the 7 deadly sins. This post is for your clarification of what the "Sins" ranks are and what they each stand for. We do know that we have more then seven. The goal was to maintain the theme.

* Wrath & Anger = Guildmaster and Guildmaster assistant

* Harsilor = Wrath- Brimstone Relations & Guildmaster

* Blizznite = Anger- Vent Admin/Website Admin

* Envy = Officers who have a specific role in making sure that the guild is functioning.

* Harsilor = Brimstone Relations/Guildmaster, & 25 Raid Lead

* Nzhuv = Website Manager/Recruitment, 25 Raid dbm raid ready counter.

* Vashna = Guild Bank Management, 25 Raid assist

* Prikha =25 Raid Assist- Specific grps and encounters.

* Doomsnight = DKP Officer

* Zhenwu = Relations, 25 Raid Assist

* Lust = Veteran... those that have been a part of Brimstone for a significant period of time, and are highly involved, helpful and resourceful (requires max level)

* Pride = Members that have been in Brimstone for at least 2 weeks and are actively part of a raid group.

* Apathy = Members that have been in Brimstone for at least 2 weeks and are not actively part of a raid group.

* Gluttony = Alts of those ranked Officer+ (this is only for the purpose of being able to see Officer chat while on an alt and invite into guild)

* Greed = Alts of those ranked Veteran/Member

* Despair = Recruit... Members of Brimstone that have been in the guild for less than 2 weeks and are under trial for full membership.

A Few Random Things

1. DBM is required for all raiders.

2. Guild Note:

* On main: MS & OS [strike] date entered as a recruit
* On alt: Main character
* Role "Abbreviations" are: T (tank), M (melee dps), R (ranged dps), H (healer)

3. Officer Notes will be:
DKP Value for use in 25 Raids

4. Guild Bank:

Items deposited into the guild bank will be considered a donation. Items in the guild bank can be purchased via the Guild Bank Manager for 50% AH prices. This is for the sole purpose of bringing money into the bank so that we can fund your guild repairs while raiding.
* Tab 1: "Consumables" -- anything that's up for grabs: companions, bags, common cut gems, food
* Tab 2: "Old World" -- ores, herbs, leather, cloth and other materials from previous content
* Tab 3: "Cooking" -- cooking materials, individual buff food & 250 stat banquets
* Tab 4: "Herb/Ore" -- herbs, ores for current content & inks for all glyphs
* Tab 5: "Tailor/LW" -- cloth and leather materials for current content
* Tab 6: "JC" -- cut & uncut gems of rare & epic quality for current content
* Tab 7: "Chant Mats" -- enchanting materials, enchanted vellums, leg threads and shoulder inscriptions
* Tab 8: "Raid Stuff" -- 275 stat banquets, raid BoEs, raid pattern drops, flasks & potions

Raid Expectations

They're kinda obvious but in case you forget how:

1. If you put down you are attending an event, please log on 15-20 minutes prior to start time. We will not hold your spot for you. However, if you will/might be late, please tell the leaders/officers and we will do our best to save you a spot.

2. Be ready to raid! That means the dog is walked, you've used the restroom, snacks in arms-reach, cigarette craving satisfied. Breaks will be provided, usually halfway through the raid.

3. Come prepared (repaired, flasks/potions, buff food, reagants)

4. If you do not know the fights, please be quiet as those on vent explain the fight.

5. Have fun

6. 25 Man Raids

* If a player is attending a 25 man raid, they are expected to participate on their main character.
* If a player wishes to attend a 25 man raid on an alt, it is up to the discretion of the raid leaders. Or the raid leaders may ask if a main wishes to participate on an alt in order to balance the raid out.
* Loot priority will be as follows in 25 mans: (1) Main character's primary raiding spec (2) Main characters active secondary raiding spec, examples are hybrid heals/dps & tank/dps (3) Main character's nonactive secondary spec OR Alt character's primary raiding spec (4) Alt character's secondary raiding spec.

Member Rules & Regulations

The following are the expectations of all guild members:

1. As a member of Brimstone, I will be mature, understanding, welcoming and humorous.

2. I will act mature and handle personal matters like an adult. If necessary, I will seek to council with the leaders/officers for mediation.

3. If I have the desire to change my current raid group, I will provide my current raid leader with a two week notice prior to the switch. If I do not provide such notice, I will receive 1-2 strikes.

4. If I wish to change my main character or my main character's primary raiding spec, I am aware that it will be 3 months before I can make another change. (This is subject to change based upon raid needs but only at the discretion of the raid leader in emergency situations.)

5. If I choose to leave Brimstone, I understand that I may not be invited to raids because those in Brimstone get first priority with invites.

6. If I leave Brimstone and wish to return, I will re-enter as a member/recruit and have one strike against me.

7. I realize that sometimes due to circumstances beyond my control that I may need to be inactive. If such a situation should arise, I will inform an officer of my absence/inactivity. If I am inactive for more than two months without informing an officer, I realize that I will be kicked out of Brimstone. (Note: If your computer crashes, text or call an officer to inform them. If you do not have an officer's number, then send a message to Nzhuv, Harsilor, or Blizznite via WoWstead.)

8. I realize that Brimstone has a Strike System, and if I receive three strikes then I will be kicked out of Brimstone. Strikes can be obtained as follows:

* Leave guild & Return = 1 strike
* Intentional Raid Wipe = 1 strike and a ban from raiding (2 week minimum)
* Talking negatively about another guildie or causing/instigating drama in guild chat = 1 strike
* Switching raid groups with 1 week notification = 1 strike
* Switching raid groups with no notification = 2 strikes
* Reported for ninja looting = auto kick
* NOTE: If you are a current member, depending on circumstances, the officers may decide to reset strikes, but only upon the release of a new expansion. If you are kicked out of Burn This, this does not apply.

If you feel that you cannot adhere to this Brimstone Contract, then Brimstone may not be the guild for you.

If you are a member and you feel that we are missing something that could be added to this contract, please let an officer know.
